Protais Muhirwa
Honored as “Most Empowering Leader in Social Integration and Well-being for Marginalized Communities 2025”

We’re proud to share that Protais Muhirwa, founder and leader of ARMIA (Active Refugee and Migrant Integration in Australia), has been honoured with the “Most Empowering Leader in Social Integration and Well-being for Marginalized Communities 2025” award by Ctoday Awards.
This recognition shines a light on Muhirwa’s unwavering commitment to empowering refugees, migrants, and other disadvantaged Australians through ARMIA’s uniquely holistic model—now operating under the name ARMIA Healing the Incurables.
A Vision Rooted in Dignity, Empowerment and Sustainability
Under Protais’ leadership, ARMIA has become a beacon of hope, not just for those newly arriving in Australia, but for anyone navigating hardship and seeking to rebuild their life with dignity. Rather than offering short-term solutions, ARMIA focuses on long-term empowerment—addressing deep-rooted cultural, social, emotional, and practical challenges with compassion and purpose.
Muhirwa’s strength lies in his ability to unite a diverse team of professionals and volunteers across psychology, medicine, social work, education, and beyond—many with decades of experience. Together, they deliver culturally responsive programs that build trust within Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities, break stigmas around mental health and family support, and restore self-reliance.
A Broader Mission: Supporting All Who Need It
While ARMIA began with a focus on refugees and migrants, its mission has expanded to support seniors through In-Home Care, individuals with disabilities through NDIS, and disadvantaged Australians—mainstream and Indigenous alike. Every program is rooted in the belief that every person deserves the chance to live a normal, empowered life with their family and community.
Strategic Growth Through Partnerships and Enterprise
ARMIA’s reach and impact have grown significantly thanks to strategic collaborations with government agencies, universities, faith organisations, and community groups. These partnerships have allowed ARMIA to open doors in education, employment, and welfare.
Protais places a strong emphasis on economic empowerment, recognising that financial independence is a key pillar of social integration. Over the past decade, ARMIA has helped thousands secure employment and supported hundreds in starting their own businesses. The organisation also invests in social enterprises to reduce dependency on government funding and create sustainable revenue streams for future initiatives.
Looking Forward: A 24/7 Global Vision
Protais Muhirwa envisions ARMIA as a “Tree”—deeply rooted, flexible in its branches, and inclusive in its shade. With plans to operate 24/7 and expand services beyond Queensland, his sights are set on extending ARMIA’s support model across Australia and globally.
This award marks not just a milestone in Protais Muhirwa’s journey, but a reminder of what’s possible when compassion meets action. As ARMIA continues to grow, it remains a powerful force for resilience, healing, and hope in the lives of so many.
